GOVERNOR AMBODE RELEASE OVER N683 MILLION FOR BURSARY AND SCHOLARSHIP PAYMENTS FOR LAGOS INDIGENES IN TERTIARY INSTITUTIONS ACROSS THE COUNTRY AND ABROAD.
The Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode has approved the payment of bursary, foreign and local scholarship to Lagos State indigenes in tertiary institutions across the country and abroad.
According to the Special Adviser to the Governor on Education, Mr. Obafela Bank-Olemoh who disclosed this in his office, however urged concerned students to exercise patience as necessary provision is being put in place to ensure that every beneficiary, both fresh and subsequent is well taken care of.
Mr. Obafela Bank-Olemoh stressed the commitment of the State Government to sustain the scholarship and bursary scheme in spite of the economic situation of the country.
He added, “His Excellency is committed to ensuring that Lagosians are empowered through education to contribute productively to the local and global economies.”
He further stated that “the release of the awards demonstrates the priority the administration of Governor Akinwunmi Ambode accords to educating its citizens”.
The Special Adviser added that “Education provides and equips the nation’s youths with the necessary skills, attitudes and aptitude to confront future challenges and function effectively in an ever dynamic global community”.
In the same vein, the Executive Secretary of the Lagos State Scholarship Board Mr. Oshinowo Steve appreciated the State Government for the release of the awards, adding that this shows the priority the administration of Governor Akinwunmi Ambode has accorded educating its youths.
Speaking further, Oshinowo said the State Government understands the pivotal role education plays in defining the socio-political development of this present time and the growth and advancement of the State thus the avowed commitment and reassurance that education remains one of the top priorities that cannot be negotiated by this government.
Giving a breakdown of the payment, the Executive Secretary said Government released the sum of N 19,707,511.20k (Nineteen Million, Seven Hundred and Seven thousand, Five Hundred and Eleven, Twenty kobo) for three (3) Foreign scholarship beneficiaries, for Bursary Award, the State Government will disburse N 379, 195, 000.00 (three Hundred and Seventy Nine Million, One Hundred and Ninety Five thousand naira) for 9, 188 (Nine thousand, One hundred and Eighty Eight) beneficiaries.
For Local Scholarship, Government will expend the sum of N 284, 598,000.00 (Two Hundred and Eighty Four Million, Five Hundred and Ninety Eight Thousand naira) only for 1, 324 (One Thousand, Three Hundred and Twenty Four) beneficiaries.
Howbeit, the Executive Secretary advised the subsequent beneficiaries of Bursary award to come for their documentation from Monday, October 22, 2018; while Fresh beneficiaries of Local Scholarship award are to come for opening of their bank accounts at the Board.
